AS PORTUGUESAS BASE
AS PORTUGUESAS are a new footwear concept which doesn’t leave the Planet’s sustainability barefoot. We are proud to be the world’s first cork flip-flops brand, using a 100% natural raw material that is born from a tree and is retrieved every nine years, without the tree ever being cut.
Cork is the bark of the Quercus Suber L., Portugal’s National Tree. It is a 100% natural plant-based tissue, shaped like a beehive of microscopic cells, filled with an air-like gas. Portugal owns a third of the global cork oak forests, being the largest producer in the world. Per year, it transforms 50% of global cork production, about 100 thousand tons. Although they already occupy 23% of the country’s forest area, important reforestation measures have been developed, generating an annual growth of around 4%.
The blend of rubber and 100% natural cork used in soles, makes ASPORTUGUESAS footwear unique, and its finishes in natural felt and rubber guarantee that your feet will be covered with nature’s finest materials.
